Reaching into the Community
JSAC believes that communities should take responsibility for the protection of women and children. It also appreciates that taking women out of the community can be a challenge to cultural practices and that doing so may make it hard to find a long-term solution to problems. It has therefore set up the village drop-in centres to provide community based prevention and protection. Groups of key individuals have been trained to set up GBV support mechanisms, and to identify “at risk” individuals.
The drop-in centres are supported by JSAC, Nambikkai Illam and the WDOs. Whilst most cases identified by the village drop-in centres are addressed within the community, some are referred to the Safe House, or to the judiciary system
